1. Make a plan

If you want to make sure that your office stays clean and that you can maintain it this way all year long, you need to make a solid plan for cleaning and make sure that you can distribute tasks between everyone in the office to make things fair. You can even create a rolling rota where you have different people performing different tasks each week to ensure that everyone has a responsibility to keep the office clean.

2. Declutter

For any working environment, it is important to have a clear space to work with and one which is tidy and organized. Most of us over time collect certain items and knick-knacks and after a long while, this can accumulate into clutter in the office which does nothing more than get in the way. It is important if you want to have a clear mind in your office, that you make sure to have a clear desk space too. On one Friday afternoon make sure that everyone spends an hour or so clearing out anything they don’t need and sifting through paperwork for shredding later. It is important for us to clear the office ruthlessly and this will make a world of difference to the mood and the productivity in the office because people won’t be constantly becoming distracted by items on and their desks.

3. Clear Desk

It is important for you to take the time to clear and clean your desk during the cleaning process. We all have a lot of things which accumulate on the desk after a long while and it is something which we can’t avoid. Now and again we might have random notebooks and snacks and post-it notes on the desk and this is a mess we don’t need to have. Take time to organize and clear everything once a month and this will keep things organized throughout the working year.

4. Wash Windows

The next thing you can do to clean the office effectively this year is wash the windows and make sure that they are bright and streak free. It is a good idea for you to keep the windows clean at all times because the windows offer a lot of light for the office and they can also provide a lovely view for your employees when they need a little bit of respite. You can hire a window cleaner to handle the exterior for you and this will make life a little easier.

5. Empty the bins

Once a week it is important for you to empty all of the bins in the office and make sure to recycle paper and plastic into the relevant places. Emptying the bins on a Friday is always a good option because it will allow you to have clear and empty bins for the weekend instead of letting food rot and fill the air with a smell before the start of a new week.

6. Computers, Keyboards and Phones

When cleaning the office piece by piece there are a lot of different things you will want to clean. For example, it might not be the first thing you think about but cleaning out the keyboard, wiping your phones and the computers are all important things to do. Make sure that you tip your keyboard upside down and use an air compressor to get rid of crumbs and other bits of sediment which may have accumulates over time. Use a microfibre cloth for the computer monitors so that the screens will always stay clean.

7. Toilets

One of the less pleasant parts to clean in the office is the toilets, but these are some of the most important elements to keep clean of all. To keep the toilets hygienic, make sure that you bleach them once a week on a Friday night, and also make sure to use a spray such as Dettol to clean the cistern, basin and flush handle. One handy way to help maintain clean toilets over time is to apply small cleaning gel discs to the bowls.

8. Clean the kitchen

After the bathroom, the most important part of the office to keep clean is the kitchen. When you have a communal kitchen area in the office you can really see the worst habits in people. A lot of people won’t clean up after themselves and this can leave the kitchen full of spills and food and god knows what else. It is important to clean the kitchen every day by washing up food plates and wiping surfaces. Take the time to clean the fridge now and again and also make a rota so that everyone has to chip in.

9. Mop and Vacuum

Mopping the floors and vacuuming carpets is never the most fun job, but you can make things easier with a steam cleaner from Steamaster.com.au to provide a deep carpet clean and ensure that the carpet stays clean for longer too. Mopping the floors in the kitchen and bathroom will be super simple but make sure you place a wet floor sign!

10. Inspect

After cleaning the office take a little bit of time to walk around and inspect your work. It is a great idea to look at your handy work once you have done because often other issues and spots which you may have missed will be spotted and rectified. Once you are happy with your work you can set a date in the calendar for the next deep clean and in the meantime, maintain a clean office.
