We all know and understand just how much having great people that work for us makes a difference. When you have a team of people that are skilled, talented, and want to make a difference, then it can help your business to be more successful. A team of people that don’t really care and don’t want to be there, won’t be like that, so it is important to get the right people working for you. You need to see recruiting and getting the right people for the business is something that is just as vital as being able to manage your finances and generate sales. So with that in mind, here are some steps that can help you to attract the best people for your team, and recruit the best people that are knowledgeable in your area.
Review your company’s approach
Before you start to think about advertising and getting some new members of the team on-board, it is a good idea to first think about making sure that you are not actually losing the people that are already with you. It can seem like something that is quite obvious, but many companies can just keep casting their net far and wide for new recruits, rather than keeping the ones that you have got, the skilled and experienced ones, and keeping them with you. Are you promoting people within the team, or do you just go straight to advertising externally?
Clearly define the job role
Assuming that you don’t have any internal candidates that you want to promote, or that you’d consider for the job, then you will need to look and advertise to the general public for a role. So one of the first things that you need to do is to make sure that you have a clear definition of the job role, and how the job is described. Make sure that you are clear and accurate about what you are looking for, as well as what you can offer the right candidate. Being able to point out the opportunities for progression, and be really able to ‘sell’ the job, is something that is really important. If you don’t describe things well, then it won’t attract the candidates that you are looking for.
Target potential candidates
In order to reach the right people for your team, you need to know where to find them. Targeting your job ad is something that can be really effective. There might be some software programs that you can use that will help you to find your target audience, by being able to use their favorite sites to place ads. If you think about it, people that are searching for jobs will look online, and will search for radiology positions, for example. So, there is no harm in making sure that you get seen, and your ad is seen by the people that you want to see. LinkedIn can be a really good idea too, and feel free to message and approach people on there if they look ideal to you. Of course, this can take up time, but it can be really worthwhile.
Refining the interview process
If you have created and posted a job advert, and the job description is in the right place, and it has attracted enough people that you have people to choose to invite to interview, then you need to decide who is going to be the person that conducts the interview. It is quite interesting how many companies spend a lot of time and effort to attract new candidates and then they can blow it all with some really bad interviews that are badly prepared for. Interviews shouldn’t be a last-minute thing, run by the person in the office who has some free time to do it all.
If you want to get the best candidates, then you know that they aren’t dummies. They know when the interview isn’t great and when it is a really bad interview. There is no excuse, as the people you recruit really are important for business and to get the candidates that you want is vital. So, make sure that you know it is going to help and you make plans for a great interview process.
