No one likes to think that discrimination is something that can happen in the workplace, but sadly it is quite common. In fact, many people experience prejudice based on their gender, race, sexuality, or disability on a regular basis.

The good news is that such discrimination is not legal, and your employer should have measures in place to at least deal with the incidence of this when it occurs, if not to prevent it happening altogether.

Of course, being a victim of this sort of treatment can be incredibly damaging to a person’s self-esteem, morale, and so their attainment in their career. To that end, it is vital that you make your employers aware of any discrimination that is occurring, and then escalate this to a legal matter if nothing is done.

This is an issue known as wage theft and can happen when the minimum wage isn’t paid, or you aren’t provided with the right paperwork for your salary. It can even occur when employers refuse to pay for overtime!

However, those facing such an issue are not without recourse. In fact, many lawyers specialize in wage theft issues and claiming unpaid salaries for victims this crime. Bullying

Lastly, when it comes to derailing your career few things can have such an adverse effect as bullying, something that can rob the victim of all their conference! Sadly, while we may think if it that is something more likely to happen in the playground rather than the office, it does occur in the workplace as well.

To deal with this, you may choose one of several methods. The first would be to confront the person that you believe to be bullying you. Although, it likely that this action will not be received in the best manner.
